SMART Team Complete Final Qualifier
on High Note We were at Bridgeport University for the regional competition. The gym we were in was pretty cold in the early morning (8:00). After we set up our booth we practiced our research presentation script quietly to ourselves. After the practice, we hung around the booth and asked team members from other teams play our S.M.A.R.T. games to enter the raffle and win S.M.A.R.T. treasures at the end of the competition. Our first run at the board went well with a score of 176 which put us in 3rd place in performance for that time. After the round we all were hyped for the rest of the competition, but concerned that our robot wasn't doing as well as in practice. Our presentation went well and almost right after we had our 2nd and 3rd rounds so not much time to make changes. We kept our spirits up by singing the cool team chant we came up with. We ate the pizza we had pre-ordered for lunch, and then took some time to test our robot. After a few last minute changes to our programs we were ready for our last two rounds. Our changes paid off and we scored over 240 in round 4, and achieved our high score of the day in the last round with a 253 earning us first place performance at this competition.We also entered a raffle for gift baskets which unexpectedly none of us one. We struggled through the competition and won two trophies, robot performance and directors award. The directors award is the top award in the competitions. At the end of the competition our captain Jo-Jo said "Great job team see you tomorrow to talk about how we did today." That was the day's end. But we knew there was still a lot of work needed to get ready for the state competition next week!
